BFSG Compliance & Accessibility
Since June 2025, B2C websites in Germany must be accessible. Fines up to EUR 100,000. I build WCAG 2.1 AA compliant – as an update for existing sites or from scratch.
The Problem
The BFSG (Accessibility Strengthening Act) implements the European Accessibility Act into German law. Since June 2025: websites selling products or services to consumers must be accessible. Not as a recommendation, but as a legal requirement. Fines up to EUR 100,000.
Most websites don't meet the requirements. Missing contrast, no keyboard navigation, images without text alternatives, forms without labels – these aren't minor issues, they're violations. And overlay solutions like "AccessiWay" or "UserWay" aren't real accessibility – they're a band-aid on an open wound.
The Solution
Real accessibility is not a plugin you install. It's a building method – from the first line of code to the last piece of content.
The Proof
Impact Report of Seniorpartner in School – professionally and accessibly built. Quote from chairwoman Karin Chierchia's Google review:
"Jan-Erik and the talented editor Annemarie have professionally and accessibly set up this new format for us. Great teamwork, reliable and dedicated."
Accessibility is not an add-on feature you bolt on at the end. It's a fundamental approach that's considered from the start. Three years in games QA taught me: finding errors systematically is a learned profession.
FAQ – BFSG & Accessibility
The BFSG (Accessibility Strengthening Act) implements the European Accessibility Act into German law. Since June 2025, websites selling products or services to consumers must be accessible according to WCAG 2.1 AA. Fines up to EUR 100,000.
The BFSG applies to B2C websites selling products or services to end consumers. Pure B2B websites without consumer contact are currently exempt. When in doubt: build accessible anyway – it never hurts and interpretation is getting stricter.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define technical standards for web accessibility. Level AA is the legally required standard. This includes: sufficient contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, text alternatives for images.
In most cases, yes. Whether an update or a rebuild makes more sense depends on the technical condition of the existing site. Modern WordPress installations often just need a targeted update. With outdated technology, a rebuild is more cost-effective.
Accessibility as part of a new project: included in the fixed price. As a retrofit for an existing website: from EUR 1,200, depending on scope and condition. Significantly cheaper than a fine of up to EUR 100,000.
