BFSG Check & Accessibility

Since June 28, 2025, the BFSG applies to specific digital offerings, including e-commerce services. I check whether your website is affected and rebuild it with WCAG-oriented accessibility.

01

The Problem

The BFSG (Accessibility Strengthening Act) implements the European Accessibility Act into German law. Since June 28, 2025, it applies to specific products and services, including e-commerce services. This can affect B2C shops, booking flows and ordering flows in particular. Pure information pages, pure B2B offerings and microenterprises providing services may need to be assessed differently.

Most websites don't meet the requirements. Missing contrast, no keyboard navigation, images without text alternatives, forms without labels – these aren't minor issues, they're violations. And overlay solutions like "AccessiWay" or "UserWay" aren't real accessibility – they're a band-aid on an open wound.

02

The Solution

Real accessibility is not a plugin you install. It's a building method – from the first line of code to the last piece of content.

03

The Proof

Impact Report of Seniorpartner in School – professionally and accessibly built. Quote from chairwoman Karin Chierchia's Google review:

"Jan-Erik and the talented editor Annemarie have professionally and accessibly set up this new format for us. Great teamwork, reliable and dedicated."

Accessibility is not an add-on feature you bolt on at the end. It's a fundamental approach that's considered from the start. Three years in games QA taught me: finding errors systematically is a learned profession.

FAQ – BFSG & Accessibility

What is the BFSG?

The BFSG (Accessibility Strengthening Act) implements the European Accessibility Act into German law. Since June 28, 2025, it applies to specific products and services, including e-commerce services. This can affect B2C shops and digital ordering flows in particular; microenterprises providing services are exempt.

Does the BFSG apply to my website?

The BFSG does not apply to every website by default. Specific products and services are relevant, especially e-commerce services. Pure B2B offerings and microenterprises providing services may be exempt. That is why I check the concrete applicability first.

What does WCAG 2.2 AA-oriented mean?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define technical standards for web accessibility. Level AA is a widely used technical target standard. This includes: sufficient contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, text alternatives for images.

Can my existing website be made accessible?

In most cases, yes. Whether an update or a rebuild makes more sense depends on the technical condition of the existing site. Modern WordPress installations often just need a targeted update. With outdated technology, a rebuild is more cost-effective.

What does an accessible website cost?

Accessibility as part of a new project: included in the fixed price. As a retrofit for an existing website: from EUR 1,200, depending on scope and condition. Whether there is a risk of fines depends on applicability, the individual case, and enforcement.
